James Llamas, PE, AICP
Never content to solve just one problem at a time, James sees every project as an opportunity to advance safety, access, and equity in a place. His work is informed by his experiences over a decade living car-free in Houston and working on its transportation paradigm shift. During that time, he helped redesign the local bus network to attract more riders, develop a transit expansion plan approved by two-thirds of voters, create the first bicycle master plan for a sprawling city, and design and construct dozens of miles of street improvements to provide safer walking and biking. Always on the hunt for new ideas, James rides transit systems in 30+ cities each year and enjoys getting to know a place via a bike ride or run.
At Nelson\Nygaard, James supports planning work with conceptual design and leads final design projects, primarily in the Northeast.
