Iain Banks, PTP

Washington DC Office Lead
Iain is a transportation and parking specialist who examines the interrelationships between modes.

With 20 years of public- and private-sector experience, Iain is the head of Nelson\Nygaard’s Washington, DC, office. He plays an integral role in the firm's parking and transportation demand management practice, including citywide and campus master plans, downtown parking programs, and corridor planning. Iain has helped dozens of municipalities, campus planners, downtown development organizations, and private developers craft parking and transportation policies, programs, and practices that achieve defined sustainability goals. Iain’s ethos is that the planning of a sustainable transportation network supports community goals of mobility, economic vitality, and healthy living.

Prior to Nelson\Nygaard Iain served in the City of Annapolis’ Department of Transportation Mobility program, focusing on the interrelationships between transit operations, off-street and on-street parking resources, and non-automobile facilities. This program successfully implemented a circulator bus service connecting the downtown parking garages, increasing transit ridership and garage occupancy while decreasing on-street parking demand in the local residential communities.
