RTC On Board Mobility Plan
Nelson\Nygaard led the development of a visionary plan to identify how enhancements to the current bus system, new high-capacity transit services, and emerging transit technologies can improve future mobility and accessibility for residents and visitors.
The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC), which carried more than 64 million passengers last year, has earned national recognition for efficiency and effectiveness, and the Las Vegas Strip route has achieved distinction as the most profitable transit route in the country. The growth happening within the Greater Las Vegas Valley demanded enhanced and expanded transit services to provide a foundation for economic development and bolster mobility options for residents, employees, andvisitors. Existing and future travelers within the region require fast, frequent, convenient, and attractive transportation. With limited regional resources, expanding partnerships and developing innovative approaches to transit funding were critical efforts toward increasing regional access and mobility.
Nelson\Nygaard led the development of a visionary plan to identify how enhancements to the current bus system, new high-capacity transit services, and emerging transit technologies can improve future mobility and accessibility for residents and visitors. The “On Board” Plan identified where enhancements to the current system such as new, more frequent, and faster routes would provide the most benefit to riders and the surrounding community as well as the corridors where high-capacity transit services such as bus rapid transit, streetcar, or light rail would provide the most benefit to riders and the regional economy. The plan also identified how emerging transit technologies could enhance customer service and reduce operating costs.
The Nelson\Nygaard team compiled and analyzed data, examined best practices across the country, sought and incorporated feedback from stakeholders and the community, and identified emerging transit technologies and trends to ensure that On Board develops a vision of the community’s transit needs for the next 20+ years.
