April 17, 2018 – Georgetown, TX – The Williams Drive Study has been awarded the APA Central Texas Chapter Planning Award for Best Plan in 2017.
Because of early buy-in from the Community, the Williams Drive Corridor Study was quickly utilized by the Georgetown, TX City Council to implement improvements on the heavily traveled roadway. Initial work includes projects to address traffic congestion, bicycle and pedestrian safety, and roadway aesthetics. The Plan will continue to guide the City over the next 10-years.
The project team designed the Williams Drive Study to serve as more than just a document, providing a process to spearhead the development of a comprehensive plan that increases safety, improves transportation operations, safely accommodates all transportation modes, and integrates smart transportation and land use, community needs, and economic growth along Williams Drive. The size of the Plan required innovative techniques to capture and analyze data. The project team embraced technology including state-of-the-art GIS tools, WikiMaps, public surveys and a weeklong charrette.
Staff who worked on this study include project manager Iain Banks.
