Stijn’s focus is at the intersection of how transportation planning, urban design, and landscape architecture combine to create vital, livable places. Stijn specializes in active transportation, with experience that includes a spatial analysis of the city-wide docked bikeshare in Chicago and the dockless bikeshare pilot on Chicago’s Far South Side. His work in Chicago has also involved advising the city on how to improve and expand engagement with local communities during the corridor development design phase for the 760-acre Lincoln Yards redevelopment. He has analyzed mode share in cities throughout Illinois to examine how these cities can encourage active transportation and bridge transportation gaps that present barriers to sustainability, equity, and safety. His work has also included transit-oriented development and how it can deployed in order to better serve the communities that need it most.
