Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia (SSSEVA) develops and operates coordinated programs for seniors and serves as a resource center for adults with disabilities. As the aging population continues to grow in the Western Tidewater Region, more seniors need transportation to medical facilities and other services. This is especially challenging in the more rural portions of the region.
Nelson\Nygaard assisted in the development of a plan to prepare the region for immediate and future coordination of transportation services, beginning with an implementation plan for a one call/ one click center. Other mobility management strategies recommended include sharing support staff resources, implementing a flex travel voucher program, and coordinating and expanding volunteer driver program. As a follow-up to this effort, we assisted SSSEVA in forming a regional coordinating council on access and mobility that is now responsible for implementing the recommendations.
