With a temperate climate and tourists and locals moving more to bicycling, King County Metro sought guidance on launching bike share in the Seattle metropolitan region.
Nelson\Nygaard, in collaboration with Alta Planning and Design and Nice Ride Minnesota, helped develop a bike share feasibility study and financially sustainable business plan. We developed a strategy to integrate bike share fares into the Puget Sound’s regional fare collections system known as ORCA and identified potential station siting and sign code issues that might hinder sponsor opportunities and system marketing.
Nelson\Nygaard convened some of the region’s most influential business interests to provide bike share education and generate excitement for system sponsorship opportunities. Our facilitation of the business stakeholder focus group resulted in strong understanding of how bike sharing might benefit local businesses, exposed some key issues that will facilitate bike share implementation, and generated informal statements of interest in sponsorship.
