Columbus is among one of the nation’s largest and fastest growing cities, yet it remains the largest city in the U.S. without any form of rail transportation. The City has recognized the need to modernize their transportation system and approach in investing in multimodal transportation options to support desired growth and economic activity.
Nelson\Nygaard is working with the City of Columbus to develop a true multimodal thoroughfare plan, to improve safety, reduce congestion, assist children and the elderly, and promote economic development, fitness, and environmental responsibility. The effort, called Connect Columbus, will define the future of transportation in Columbus. We’ve held participatory community events, including a series of week-long charrette workshops as well as mobile workshops. We developed metrics, based on community-defined goals, and together we are looking at street design standards.
