Atlanta’s Transportation Plan is a comprehensive, long-term vision for mobility in the City of Atlanta, aiming to achieve the City’s goals of safety, mobility, and affordability. The Plan includes projects and policies to accommodate future population and employment growth projections and the government and institutional structures needed to deliver on them. Nelson\Nygaard developed a multimodal urban growth model to assess the impact of future travel demand on Atlanta’s transportation networks and estimate the mode shifts necessary to keep the city moving.
Nelson\Nygaard led the development of a citywide transportation demand management program and draft ordinance to guide future growth and development. We developed recommendations for emerging mobility and technology considerations in shaping transportation demand, and we developed new street design guidelines in line with the City’s priorities. A key outcome of the Plan is a prioritized capital project list developed and evaluated to consider implementation resources, equity areas, and critical safety improvements.
