The Congress for the New Urbanism gave a 2016 CNU Charter Award to Currie Barracks, a new LEED-certified, 160-acre development in a former Canadian forces base in Calgary, Alberta. The plan also won a second award, the 2016 Award of Planning Excellence from the Alberta Professional Planners Institute.
Nelson\Nygaard served on a team with Urban Design Associates and Civitas to conduct a transportation assessment for the new development. The team relocated a bus rapid transit corridor, created bike lanes throughout the district, and short blocks for improved pedestrian access.
