LADOT Strategic Plan

LADOT Strategic Plan

Los Angeles, CA

Nelson\Nygaard built consensus around shared goals, gathering feedback from staff at all levels of the organization, and looking to national peers for trends and opportunities.

The Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) is responsible for meeting the demands of increasingly different travel modes and patterns, while working toward a safer street network and preparing for future mobility. LADOT also strives to be a responsive and inclusive neighborhood partner, supporting broader city and neighborhood goals in creating vibrant and safe streets and neighborhoods.

The 2018–2020 Great Streets for Los Angeles Plan builds on the work of the Department to meet its mission and goals, by adopting a Vision Zero Policy, implementing Great Streets improvements, expanding carshare and rideshare models, and updating parking management around the City. This plan provides new momentum for these initiatives, while integrating transportation technology strategies to ensure that LADOT continues to be a national thought leader on transportation technology and data. Nelson\Nygaard led the development of a strategic plan for LADOT. For this effort, Nelson\Nygaard assembled a well-organized team to facilitate a series of workshops and interactive meetings with executives, staff, and diverse stakeholders. The activities and exercises were intended to connect modal priorities across the agency, anticipate future mobility needs, and articulate and operationalize a clear vision.

Our approach consisted of building consensus around shared goals, gathering feedback from staff at all levels of the organization, and looking to national peers for trends and opportunities. The plan is organized around four goal areas with over 100 benchmarks for the agency to make progress on over the next three years.
