Environmental Impact Assessments

Good environmental impact assessments encourage informed public debate on major projects. Nelson\Nygaard combines experience writing transportation impact assessments that meet state and federal requirements with innovative techniques that solicit and facilitate meaningful public dialogue about technical issues.

Environmental Impact Report (CEQA) and Environmental Impact Statement (NEPA)

Whether following a CEQA or NEPA process, Nelson\Nygaard provides comprehensive transportation impact assessments that cross all modes, as well as developing mitigation measures that focus on transit and alternative mode use. Our public involvement processes meet the letter and intent of the law and provide the best opportunity for receiving meaningful feedback.

Mitigation Plans

Project opponents often draw attention to potential increased traffic and parking congestion: in an already urban area, transportation impacts can be difficult to mitigate using traditional techniques that call for increasing capacity and therefore roadway width to manage congestion. Nelson\Nygaard is adept at measuring the impacts of more creative mitigation measures, including transportation demand management tools, parking policy changes and improvements in transit service, reducing the need to dedicate increasing space to autos. Our tools have been adapted into EIR and EIS analyses and have withstood challenges from project opponents.
