Shuttles

Shuttles can be a friendlier, more flexible alternative to traditional “Big Bus” fixed-route systems, providing community-oriented transit that is both efficient and effective. Nelson\Nygaard has created shuttles for businesses, transportation agencies, public transit systems, universities, hospitals, and student programs, and has taken projects from conception to implementation.

Planning

Nelson\Nygaard designs shuttle services tailored to the unique needs of each community. We assess demand through data collection and analysis; and also work closely with stakeholders and community-members, using public meetings and our Smithville Planning Game© to collectively create a network that reflects local values.

Implementation

The firm thinks about implementation from the first day of the planning process. Nelson\Nygaard’s shuttle plans delineate specific services and routing, but also outline equipment requirements, staffing needs, and strategies for scheduling. We can even work as an extension of client staff during the intial roll-out process.

Marketing

Nelson\Nygaard will get the word out to the general public and local targeted groups (business employees, schools, seniors, parents) using maps, attractive and easy-to-read brochures and websites, community meetings and kick-off events.

Funding

No plan is complete without funding and costing components; all Nelson\Nygaard plans include projections for revenue, capital requirements, and a 5- to 20-year financial and capital plan. We can also identify funding sources for your shuttle system, and participate in the grant application process.
