The Ann Arbor Downtown Street Design Manual has won two awards. It received the 2015 Planning Excellence Award for Best Practice, Michigan Chapter of the American Planning Association, and the 2015 Planning & Analysis Award from the Michigan American Society of Landscape Architects. Nelson\Nygaard worked with a team of consultants and Ann Arbor to create a street framework plan for its downtown district. The plan developed a comprehensive set of standards to govern the design and construction of public and private projects impacting the street right-of-way. The team creatively engaged the public, with city planners going out to the people and using Twitter to generate interest. This resulted in an effective outreach process that engaged over 250 people in about 4.5 hours.
