The California Northern Section of the American Planning Association honored the Petaluma Station Area Master Plan with a 2014 Award of Merit for Comprehensive Plan, Small Jurisdiction. Nelson\Nygaard, on a team led by Opticos Design, developed all access, connectivity and parking-related elements of the plan. We planned new bicycle, pedestrian, and shuttle connections to two new rail transit stations and established policies for shared parking and on-street parking management.

The Southern California Association of Governments recognized the Orange Line BRT Sustainable Corridor Implementation Plan with a 2014 Honorable Mention, Sustainability Awards. The bus rapid transitway in LA, although a groundbreaking success, is hampered by mixed access. On a team led by Raimi + Associates, Nelson\Nygaard identified and prioritized improvements to station access and station-area circulation for all 14 existing Orange Line stations. Higher level recommendations were also issued at the corridor level, including concepts for expansion and extension of the Orange Line.
