SPUR’s plan for San Francisco’s Ocean Beach received the Top Honor Award in 2013 from the Washington, DC-based nonprofit dedicated to urban waterfront excellence in accessibility and sustainability. The Ocean Beach Master Plan seeks to protect San Francisco’s vital coastal infrastructure from rising seas, while expanding recreational opportunities for city residents and habitat opportunities for an array of endangered species. Nelson\Nygaard led the transportation analysis, and is developing strategies for moving roadways inland while improving bicycle, pedestrian, and transit access to the coast.
