The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency’s SFpark Pilot Projects won the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy’s 2012 Sustainable Transport Award and SPUR’s 2012 Good Government Award. The program aims to dramatically improve parking in San Francisco by testing a number of best-practice parking management policies and techniques as well as supporting technologies. Nelson\Nygaard created an innovative new parking and traffic demand management system.

For their contribution in the Union City Climate Action Plan, Nelson\Nygaard, on a team led by AECOM, received recognition from the Association of Environmental Professionals with a 2012 Merit Award. Nelson\Nygaard developed the plan, which aims to reduce city-wide emissions in Union City by 20 percent below 2005 levels by 2020.

April 2012 – Public participation is vital and necessary to planning and decision-making. It helps planners, decision makers, and the public process their concerns and engage in effective and meaningful discourse. However, legally mandated hearings and council and commission meetings provide few opportunities for innovative, collaborative approaches.
